Something that we see quite often on our mountain biking skills training courses is that people lack self-belief and confidence. Confidence in themselves and in the bike.
If you’re a complete beginner, like two ladies who recently came to us for an introduction to mountain biking, then we’ll structure the training to build confidence in steady steps so that you leave with skills you can practice. At the start we focused on a stable position and teaching about how to stop, safely. All of this was done on wide open track with no obstacles. We looked at the way the bike moves under the rider and progressed to how the bike moves over different surfaces before even looking at singletrack. By the end of the session the ladies were confidently riding along a root-ridden singletrack with big smiles on their faces.
